European-Style New England Wedding Venue
Deciding on whether a Glen Manor House Wedding is the right backdrop for your dream wedding? Glen Manor House is a French-style Chateau in Portsmouth, RI dating back to 1882 overlooking the Sakonnet River. The Taylor family commissioned Glen Manor House as a private escape from the bustle of Newport, RI., even today, that same sense of seclusion is still felt throughout the property. The architecture draws inspiration from the Petit Trianon in Versailles, while the gardens lean Italian in style. If you are looking to get married in the United States but you want it to feel like Europe, this venue combines a European-style feel with Rhode Island coastal elegance.

Exclusivity
This is something that folks might not think about for their wedding day, Fortunately, only one event is hosted per day at Glen Manor House, ensuring that no other weddings take place on the same date. As a wedding photographer I have worked in venues that allow more than one event at a time and it can really influence your experience, make it feel less special, give you less flexibility with your photo locations if you are trying to navigate around another group, especially for golden hour which is the most flattering light to take photos in.
Location, Accessibility, Parking, & Security
Glen Manor House is located in Portsmouth, RI, conveniently near Newport, RI. For guests traveling from out of town, Newport provides waterfront dining, shopping, hotels, wineries, breweries, and boat tours. Parking is free and accessible and there is handicap parking available. Additionally, the Town of Portsmouth requires the Lessee to hire a uniformed Portsmouth Police Officer to handle traffic, parking and security. The officer is required to be present one hour in advance and remain on site until one hour after the event concludes or until the Glen Manor House has been fully secured for the night. A fire marshal will be required for groups of 185 and over at Lessee’s expense. Security fees are subject to future Town of Portsmouth contract negotiations and can change without notice. Security on holidays is subject to a surcharge.
Photo Locations
The Manor Facade
The front of Glen Manor House is really the showstopper photo location. French-Chateau inspired, in all of her glory the grand facade is truly epic and speaks for itself. If you are looking for editorial-style wedding photography this is a perfect backdrop.

Side Garden
While the architecture is french-inspired the garden is italian-inspired and provides a beautiful backdrop for portraits.

Interior
Natural light pours through floor-to-ceiling windows throughout the interior of Glen Manor House. The getting ready suites have ornate chandeliers and fireplaces and beautiful molding and detailing to provide an elegant backdrop for getting ready portraiture or couple portraits throughout the day. This becomes especially valuable on rainy days, when indoor options matter most, there are no shortage of places to photograph indoors in the case of bad weather!

Stone Terrace
This is a cozy enclave for guests to gather for cocktail hour at the same time, the beautiful statues and arches prove to be an incredible backdrop for portraiture as well! In the case of bad weather it is protected if you still wanted to get some natural light photos!

The Lawn
The lawn has no shortage of options, the staircase leading down to the water and then to the dock, the beautiful lush trees, & mansion in the background one way, and the garden the other, there are truly no limits!

Cocktail Hour Space
The cocktail hour space is overlooking the lawn & river it feels very laid-back & casual but also elegant. It also has infinite potential to be customized, work with a planner to bring your vision to life!

Ceremony Space
Most couples choose to host their ceremony in the side garden. However, a ceremony set against the stone terrace is equally breathtaking. Talk with your planning team to see what works best for your wedding depending on the logistics of your event.

Dining Spaces
While Glen Manor House is for sure beyond social-media worthy, that said bringing in a strong designer and florist is essential to fully elevate the space, I recommend White Birch Floral and Sarah Brehant Events.

If you’re planning a wedding at the Glen Manor House and want a photographer who will capture all of the beautiful moments big and small for your wedding in a way that feels candid and brings out your best self.
